Believe it or not, I’m not one to talk about myself… well, maybe just a little!
Like many creative people, I have my quirks. For example, I’m obsessed with cheesecake and once played in a heavy metal band. But more importantly, I’m camera-shy. Odd for a photographer, right? This, however, helps me understand how to make your family and guests feel completely at ease in front of the lens.
What I really care about is listening to you. I want to know what you envision for your wedding day. That’s why I always encourage couples to meet with me and have an initial engagement session. It’s a chance to get to know each other, discuss the shots you love, and plan how to make the most of your venue - like working with the light and scenery to create stunning photos.
Rest assured, you’ll be working directly with me throughout the entire process. This is my business and my passion. No one else will be involved, ensuring your vision is fully understood and delivered.
As you’d expect, I’m fully registered and insured. Based in Edinburgh, I work frequently in Glasgow, across Scotland, and even beyond. My work has won awards and been featured in wedding magazines and blogs, which is always exciting! But what truly matters to me is being part of so many couples’ unique and beautiful stories.

We had no hesitation, within the first meeting that we knew we found who we wanted to be at our special day. Karol made us feel at ease through the whole process and we had a wonderful time during our pre-wedding photo shoot. Karol continued to make regular contact when required and answered the many questions we had. Karol arrived at the venue relaxed and had everything under control. We both felt at such ease knowing our day was being captured. Karol's structure to the photos suited our day perfectly where we never were away from our guests for too long. We booked Karol back in early 2016 for our October 2017 wedding after discovering his work through Facebook... Someone we had gone to school with had used Karol for their wedding and we instantly fell in love with his shots and his style of photography! Throughout the day Karol was virtually undetectable snapping away - of course you have the standard group wedding and family shots but for us we loved his candid photography of everyone enjoying the day. As anyone will tell you your wedding day is over so quickly and it's easy to forget or miss moments that happen with so much going on, when Karol sent us through our pictures before Christmas we were amazed they took us through every moment of the day all over again and even showed some ones that we missed. Karol captured the day perfectly and his work speaks for itself however I cannot recommend him highly enough!

My husband and I booked Karol for our wedding in October 2017 after we had arranged an engagement photoshoot in Loch Ard. Karol travelled with us the nearly 4 hour round journey and 30 minute round trek through a forest for this and we ended up with some beautiful photos in the spot James proposed :) Karol then photographed our wedding day perfectly at the beautiful Tullibole Castle. He was very discreet, we didn't know he was there half the time. Our request was to have the photos very natural. We did have some planned photos but even those were very tasteful. He was very dependable, patient but at the same time keeping us on track with what needed to happen when. We got the photos back when he said we would have them back, just in time for Christmas. Booking a photographer for our wedding in Scotland from the US was stressful but Karol calmed our nerves by being so organized and by keeping in contact with us constantly. Karol photographed our wedding in July. He is so calm and totally puts you at ease. Our wedding ran late and our first dance was an hour later than planned. We were very happy with the photos of our big day and think you only need to look at his website to see that he captures some gorgeous shots. He got all of the big snaps that we needed, several beautiful portraits and family groups, but also captured several genuinely touching moments that we had remarked on during the day and were then surprised to see had actually been captured for posterity. A friend holding hands, a whisper at the right moment, a reassuring hug. Not big set pieces, but candid moments that capture are, I think, the mark of a really good photographer. Finally it is all packaged up beautifully in a keepsake usb stick, with excellent post production values. We were thrilled with the photo package we received and think it represented fantastic value.

Karol Makula was our wedding photographer in September 2017 and we can honestly say that we were delighted to have Karol as our photographer. From the initial meeting to the post wedding follow up he was nothing but a true professional in every aspect of his work, but with the personalisation you need for your big day. He always met us at places convenient for us, often coming to our home. In the build up to the big day he took the time to listen to our ideas, taking notes and adding his professional advice to enhance our ideas, and given his experience you can instantly tell that his ideas bring great value. On the big day we had arranged a second photographer (via Karol) and both showed up promptly on time, well prepared with a list of requirements and a creative eye for a perfect photo. Karol's approach on the day was unobtrusive so to get the most natural of photos but will make sure he organises people if a specific photo is requested. He worked tirelessly through the day and even stayed a little later than expected to get some photos we requested.

When I first looked at his work I very wrongly assumed he was female, much to the humour of my then fiancé, who couldn’t contain his laughter when I phoned Karol and thought he was perhaps answering the phone for his wife.
